Books, Check Em Out!

Remember the Book It program from back in the day? I do! I was gearing up to start reading a new series called The Hunger Games. A lot of my friends were posting stuff on Pinterest about it so I thought I should give it a try. Well, all this talk about books had me singing the Books Check Em Out song. I am not sure if anyone of you remember it but it was a classic. Simple lyrics, good beat, Sir Mix A Lot....hold up did she just say Sir Mix A Lot? Yes, yes I did folks. I didn't realize this until I saw the commercial again on YouTube. Cracked me up! To this day I still sing this song whenever it pops up in my head. Oh but wait I forgot the most important part, the California Raisins did all the dance moves! Hahahaha well I had to share the video with you since I know you are just dying to see what I am talking about. Enjoy!

Back to the Book It Program, I did some reading and it still exists. I remember we had to read so many books back in the day and if we did we received a sticker on a button. If we managed to reach or monthly reading goal we would get a free personalized pizza at Pizza Hut. Mind you I was young and the Pizza Hut by my house had video games.

Psshhh Pizza this young video game loving girl wanted to read her books so she could have some arcade time! My Dad would take my sister Julie and I and I remember I couldn't wait to get in the door and ask my Dad for some quarters so I could play Ms. Pac Man, you know the kind where you would sit down and play!

The absolute best was when the Pizza Hut by my house had SUPER MARIO 3! This was huge! I didn't own it on the Nintendo yet and playing it was a thrill. Ah the good o'l days. I had some good times at that Pizza Hut. Sadly, I can't remember what books I read then but I remember getting through them for the important stuff...THE VIDEO GAMES! Please note that if any kids still in school read this disregard that last sentence and read your books they are important!
 
This blog started off  about books and then I went into video games?? I tell ya my mind is funny some times. However I will end the night sharing my favorite Dr. Seuss book with y'all. It happened to be the Foot Book. I can't even tell you how many times I checked that book out from my school library when I was somewhere between Kindergarten and 3rd grade. I just loved that book!
